1 lb stew beef
2 tbsp flour
2 tsp oil
3 cup yellow onions, sliced
3 cup mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 cup tomato paste
2 cup beef broth
1 dash desired spices
3 cup sliced carrots
3 cup russet potatoes, sliced
1 cup green beans, 1-inch pieces
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp cold water
Directions
1. In small bowl, toss beef with flour to coat. In large pot over
med, saute beef in oil 6 mins until browned. Remove and set aside.
2. Add onions and mushrooms to pot and saute for 6 mins. Add garlic
and saute for 1 min. Return beef to pot. Add tomato paste, then
broth, and enough water just to cover. Season with spices as
desired. Bring to boil, reduce heat, and simmer 1 hr until beef is
tender.
3. Add vegetables. Cover partially and simmer 45 mins until
vegetables are tender.
4. In small bowl, mix cornstarch and water and stir into stew.
Increase heat and boil uncovered for 1 min.

The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the USA, devoted their lives to collating, verifying, and publishing recipes that were common in the better off homes of the day. The arrival of television brought us TV cooks and the demand for the spin-off recipe books.
