The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be traced far back into ancient history, in truth as far back into recorded history as pharonic Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, sadly, these ancient cookbooks were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there were two interesting cookery books which were published in the 1300s ; a recipe book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they have no connection with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather descriptions of the types of food enjoyed by the nobility of that time. When we get to the 20th century, cookery books were increasing in popularity mostly as a result of better eduction, increased leisure time and being a little richer. |
