Ingredients
2 tsp dry yeast
2 tbsp sunflower seeds
2 tbsp sesame seeds
2 tbsp poppy seeds
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 tsp salt
2 cup whole wheat flour
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey
1 cup warm water
Directions
This will make a 1 1/2 lb loaf. Use the whole wheat setting on your
machine. We love this bread, but I'm not a big fan of all whole
wheat, so I usually use 1 1/2 cups of BREAD flour and just 1/2 cup
Whole wheat.
Servings: 1 loaf

The History of Recipes
It is possible to follow the history of written recipes way back into the far past, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, generally, these old cookbooks were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
Progressing into The time of the roman empire 25BC a roman called Apicius assembled a collection of scripts describing recipes cooked by his fellow Romans. In his works, he tells us how the roman meals were separated into appetizers, entrees and desserts, something that is very familiar to us today. Aspicius recounts how the chefs of Roman times used many aromatic flavours, including a few that are still present in modern kitchens for example thyme, mint and asafoetida. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought back many foods and herbs from Arab cooking, such as parsley and basil. These new foods and spices led to an outbreak in recipe books, some of which are kept safe in academic collections. By the time we get to the 20th century, cooking books are in high demand, mostly as a result of more people being able to read, more free time and being a little richer. |
