Ingredients
3 cup brown sugar
3 cup margarine
6 cup oatmeal
3 cup flour
1 tbsp baking soda
2 cup chocolate chips
Directions
Put the ingredients in large bowl. Mash, squeeze, knead, etc until it
is completely blended. Form into small balls about 1 to 1 1/2 inches
in size. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Butter the bottom of a
small glass and dip into white sugar, then pound the cookies flat.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 to 12 minutes. This is a good recipe
to use when you need to get rid of some agressions because the dough
is too heavy for most mixers. So you have to use your hands and beat
it!! You can also use peanut butter or butterscotch chips or a
mixture of them.

The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of transcribed cooking instructions back into history, certainly as far as the early Egyptians, and maybe further still. However, these, old cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Interestingly, the oldest recipe found, according to experts in ancient history is a series of tablets in ancient Sumerian which describe the baking of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as having made those who drank it feel `blissful`. As we move into The time of the romans 25BC a man called Apicius compiled some documents detailing recipes enjoyed by wealthy roman citizens. In his publication, Apicius tells us how the roman meals were split into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and afters, a very modern way of dining. Aspicius also informs us how the cooks of his times were skilled in the use of a wide range of herbs and spices, including some familiar names like basil, fennel and asafoetida. Later, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us a variety of foods and herbs from the East, including coriander, parsley, basil and rosemary. These new culinary innovations created an outbreak in cookery books, the majority of which still exist in private cookery archives. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us TV cooks and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to access thousands of recipes just like those on our web site. |
