The History of Recipes
We can follow the history of `recipes` back into history, in fact as far as early Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, mostly, these ancient records were just primitive pictorial instructions for meal preparation.
Later on, there are a couple of books which appeared in the fourteenth century : a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books are not about the spicy food that is served today, but instead accounts of the types of meals on the menues of the nobility of the time. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new foods and spices created a torrent in cookery books, some of which are now in private cookery archives. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Anne's Vegetable Dip recipe.
