The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to trace the history of recipes far back into the distant past, at least as far as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, generally, these early records were just basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Later, we find a couple of cookery books which date from the 1300s ; a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they are unconnected to the spicy food that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of meals served to the rich and powerful. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back a variety of spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices such as basil and coriander. These new spices and herbs was responsible for a torrent in cookery books, the majority of which are now in private libraries. The arrival of television gave us TV cooks and the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access thousands of recipes just like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Apple & Grape Salad recipe.
