The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Farmer in the USA, spent years to assembling, trying out, and recording recipes common in their social group.

When we get to the 1900s, cookery books are highly popular as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having increased leisure time and having more money to spend.
