Ingredients

1 1/2 cup unbleached flour, sifted
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 each large egg, slightly beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 cup tart apples *
1 nut crunch topping


Directions

* Apples are to be washed and cored. Shred the unpeeled apples for

Nevertheless, it was during the 1800s that formal cookery and recipe publications became really popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Farmer in the USA, devoted much of their lives to collecting, testing, and writing down the recipes that were being prepared for the better households.

Like it or not, the introduction of television brings us celebrity TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books.

And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this recipe site.
