The History of Recipes
Experts have traced the existence of recipes far back into history, at least as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and maybe further still. However, these, early cook books were just basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we find a couple of interesting books from the 14th Century - one book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, these two books have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of food prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of the time. In the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back many foods, spices and herbs from the Middle-East, including coriander, parsley, and basil. The introduction of these new foods and spices led to an outbreak in recipe publications, most of which are now in private cookery archives. The introduction of television gave us TV cookery programs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Arkansas Bbq Sauce (2gal) recipe.
