The History of Recipes
Historians have proved the existance of recipes back into ancient history, certainly as far back into recorded history as early Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, sadly, these ancient cook books were just primitive pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we have a couple of cookery books which appeared in the fourteenth century - a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but instead accounts of the types of meals enjoyed by the rich and powerful of the time. By the arrival of the 1900s, cooking publications were highly popular mostly as a result of more people being able to read, people having increased free time and having more money to spend. |
