The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be found far back into distant history, at least as far back as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, sadly, these ancient recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times we find two interesting cookery books which were published in the fourteenth century : a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, these have no connection with the indian food that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich people of the time. In the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and herbs from the Middle-East, including spices like basil and rosemary. These new spices and herbs prompted an outbreak in recipe publications, the majority of which still exist in private libraries. The introduction of television gave us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting everybody to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on this recipe site. |
We hope you enjoy this Baked Beans & Horseradish Filling recipe.
