The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to prove the history of recipes way back into history, in fact as far back as ancient Egypt, and potentially, even further back. However, in the main part, these ancient cook books were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have two interesting books published in the fourteenth century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these two books have no connection with the curry that is popular today, but instead accounts of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the rich people of that period. When we get to the 1900s, cooking publications are in high demand, as a result of increased literacy, people having increased spare time and having more disposable income. |
