The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to follow the history of recipes way back into ancient history, certainly as far as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, sadly, these ancient records were just basic pictorial instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, we find two books from the 1300s ; a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books are nothing to do with the curry that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of food served to the rich people of those days. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought back many new foods, spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, such as parsley and basil. The introduction of these new culinary ideas created an outbreak in manuscripts on cooking, many of which are kept safe in academic collections. The introduction of the TV gave us celebrity TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing us all to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Barbecued Pork Chops recipe.
