The History of Recipes
We are able to follow the history of `recipes` far back into the far past, certainly as far as the early Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Interesting though that maybe, in the main part, these old records were just very basic hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
The truth of the matter is, the oldest recipe discovered so far, according to academics are some tablets in ancient Sumerian describing the making of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making anyone who tried it feel `exhilarated, wonderful and blissful`. As we move on, we find a couple of cookery books dating from the fourteenth century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, they are unconnected to the curry that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menues of the nobility of that period. During the following few hundred years, the powerful and rich competed to lay on the most exotic banquets, and because of this the best chefs and their recipe collections were much in demand. Even so, it was during the nineteenth century that fine cookery and recipe collections became popular. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Farmer in the USA, devoted much of their lives to collating, verifying, and publishing recipes that were common in the better off homes of the day. The revolution that is television gave us TV cooks and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Bean & Garlic Dip 2 recipe.
