The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be found way back into distant history, in truth as far as the Egyptians, and maybe even further. In practice though, in the main part, these old records were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
Moving on, there are two interesting cookery books published in the 14th Century : a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they have no connection with the curry that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the upper classes. By the time we get to the twentieth century, recipe publications were increasing in popularity as a result of more people being able to read, people having more leisure time and having more disposable income. |
