The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of meal recipes way back into ancient history, in fact as far as the ancient Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these early recipes were just very simple pictorial recipes for preparing food.
Later on, in Roman times around 25BC a man called Apicius compiled some scripts showing how to cook the recipes prepared by the Romans. In his works, Apicius describes how the meals of wealthy Romans were separated into hors d`oeuvres, entrees and desserts, something that is very familiar to us today. Aspicius describes how the ancient chefs made use of many aromatic flavours, including a few you will know for example thyme, fennel and parsley. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new spices and herbs from the East, including spices such as rosemary and coriander. These new foods and tastes caused a surge in recipe books, some of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. The introduction of the TV brought us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cajun Mustard recipe.
