The History of Recipes
We can read the history of meal recipes back into the far past, in truth as far as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. However, mostly, these ancient records were just basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Later on, we have two interesting cookery books dating from the fourteenth century - a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they have no connection with the spicy food that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of meals prepared by the cooks of the rich and powerful of the period. Later on in the 1400s, knights returning from the crusades brought us many new foods, spices and herbs from the holy lands, including coriander, parsley, and rosemary. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an outbreak in manuscripts on cookery, some of which are kept safe in private collections. The introduction of the TV brings us celebrity chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Canada_ Tourtiere Pork Pie recipe.
