The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be found back into history, at least as far as the early Egyptians, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, generally, these ancient recipes were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing food.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are a couple of interesting books from the fourteenth century ; a cookery book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, they are unconnected to the spicy food that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of meals cooked for the rich and wealthy people of those days. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought us many foods, spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices like parsley and basil. These new foods and spices was responsible for a torrent in manuscripts on cookery, many of which are kept safe in private collections. The arrival of TV brought us cooking programs and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes just like those on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Cardamom Spiced Coffee recipe.
