The History of Recipes
We can read the history of `recipes` back into history, in fact as far back as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe further still. In practice though, sadly, these ancient records were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Later on, there are some interesting books published in the 14th Century - a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these two books are not about the indian food that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of food prepared by the chefs of the rich and wealthy people of the period. By the advent of the twentieth century, recipe publications are greatly in demand as a result of increased literacy, people having more leisure time and a general increase in wealth. |
