The History of Recipes
We can track the history of `recipes` back into the far past, in fact as far as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further. Having said that, these, old cook books were just very simple hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing food.
Later on, in Roman times around 25BC a man called Apicius created a few documents showing how to cook the recipes prepared by wealthy roman citizens. In his works, Apicius tells us how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into hors d`oeuvres, main meal and afters, a style of dining still practiced today. Aspicius also informs us how the ancient Romans were skilled in the use of a good variety of spices and herbs, including some familiar names such as basil, mint and parsley. For the next few years, the rich families of Wesstern Europe strove to lay on the most exotic banquets, and as a result cooks and their recipes were greatly in demand. Notwithstanding that, it wasn`t until the 19th century the formal cooking and recipe collections became popular. Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally well-known Fannie Farmer in the USA, devoted much of their lives to collecting, testing, and writing down recipes for their fellow cooks to enjoy. The introduction of the TV brings us celebrity TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting everyone to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Lo Cal Orange Freeze recipe.
