The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to follow the history of transcribed cooking instructions back into the far past, certainly as far back into history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. However, mostly, these ancient recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for food preparation.
As we move into The time of the romans 25BC a man called Apicius created a few documents detailing recipes enjoyed by the Romans. In his scrolls, Apicius describes how the roman meals were split into hors d`oeuvre, entrees and desserts, something we still use today. Aspicius also describes how the cooks of Roman times used a wide range of herbs, including a few you will know such as thyme, mint and dill. During the next few hundred years, the rich families of Wesstern Europe competed to serve up the best banquets, and because of this cooks and their collection of recipes were at a premium. Even so, it wasn`t until the 1800s that cookery and recipe books reached a high level of popularity. Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and Fannie Farmer in the US, devoted their lives to assembling, verifying, and writing down the recipes that were being prepared for the better households. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brings us TV cooks and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to access thousands of recipes just like those on this web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Low Carb Egg Quiche recipe.
