The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be found back into ancient history, at least as far back as the early Egyptians, and maybe further still. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these old recipes were just simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing meals.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have two recipe books dating from the 14th Century : a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these two books have no connection with the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead accounts of the types of meals enjoyed by the nobility of those days. Later on, in the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from Arab countries, including basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices created an outbreak in cookery books, most of which are kept safe in private libraries. The arrival of TV brings us TV cooks and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everybody to search through thousands of recipes such as those found on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Low Fat Creme Caramel recipe.
