The History of Recipes
We can follow the history of meal recipes way back into antiquity, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and possibly even further than that. Interesting though that is, these, early cook books were just very basic hieroglyphic instructions for preparing meals.
Continuing our culinary historical journey, we find a couple of interesting cookery books dating from the 14th Century ; a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books are not about the indian curry that is popular today, but rather descriptions of the types of food served to the upper classes. When we get to the twentieth century, cookbooks were increasing in popularity due to increased literacy, people having more free time and disposable income. |
