The History of Recipes
Academics have found proof that recipes existed way back into distant history, in truth as far into history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further. In practice though, these, early records were just very simple hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
Closer to modern times, there were two interesting recipe books which date from the 1300s : a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these two books are nothing to do with the curry that we all know today, but rather accounts of the types of meals on the menus of the nobility of that time. By the arrival of the 1900s, cookery publications were increasing in popularity mostly due to more people being able to read, more spare time and having more money to spend. |
