The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to prove the history of recipes far back into history, in truth as far back into recorded history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, in the main part, these old records were just basic pictorial instructions for meal preparation.
Closer to modern times, we find two interesting cookery books published in the fourteenth century - a book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they are unconnected to the indian food that is popular today, but instead recipes for the types of meals cooked for the upper classes of that period. By the time we get to the twentieth century, cook books were increasing in popularity as a result of more people being able to read, people having increased free time and a general increase in wealth. |
