The History of Recipes
Academics have traced the existence of recipes way back into distant history, in fact as far back into recorded history as the early Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. However, sadly, these early cookbooks were just simple pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there were a couple of books dating from the 14th Century ; one book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they have no connection with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from the Middle-East, such as basil and coriander. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an explosion in cookery books, some of which are kept safe in private collections. The introduction of television brings us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chicken Sloppy Joes recipe.
