The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to follow the history of written cooking instructions way back into history, at least as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and maybe even further. However, these, ancient records were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
Moving on, there were a couple of interesting books which appeared in the 1300s - a book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Perhaps surprisingly, these have no connection with the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich and powerful of those days. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery publications are in great demand, mostly as a result of higher levels of literacy, increased leisure time and having more money to spend. |
