Ingredients
1 chicken, cut up
1 cup cream of mushroom soup
1 package onion soup mix
1/2 cup dry sherry
1 can mushrooms, (small) or fresh
Directions
MIX EVERYTHING TOGETHER and pour over the chicken. Bake at 350
degrees for about an hour. You can do almost anything to this recipe
that you like. I.E., leave out the mushrooms, use fresh, change the
cream of soup to another flavor, use another wine or leave out . You
can also use chicken parts and take off the skin. If you use the same
concoction over a pot roast it will taste completely different. Cover
the pot roast when you bake; chicken bakes uncovered. ( Forgot to
say that) Anyway enjoy,
This recipe was given to me about 25 years ago by Auntie Myrna
Waltzer. We first had it at her house. Its great for quick meals and
for camping. You can use this with the foil technique over a fire.
Change the flavor of the soup and you change the dish.

The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to track the history of transcribed cooking instructions back into antiquity, in truth as far back into recorded history as the ancient Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. However, these, old records were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Progressing into The time of the romans around 25BC a man called Apicius compiled a collection of documents which described recipes enjoyed by wealthy Romans. In his works, he recounts how the meals of wealthy Romans were split into appetizers, entrees and desserts, a very modern way of dining. Additionally, he informs us how the ancient chefs made use of many different herbs, including a few you will know like basil, rue and dill. During the following few centuries, the powerful families of Europe tried to serve the most exotic banquets, and as a result the best cooks and their collection of recipes were at a premium. Nevertheless, it was during the 1800s that cookery and cookery books became really popular. Mrs Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the USA, dedicated the best years of their lives to assembling, verifying, and publishing recipes to help cooks of their time. Like it or not, the introduction of TV brought us celebrity chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Chickken A La Myrna recipe.
