The History of Recipes
It is possible to read the history of written recipes way back into ancient history, certainly as far into history as early Egypt, and possibly even further. Having said that, sadly, these ancient recipes were just basic pictorial instructions for food preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are two interesting cookery books which were published in the 14th Century - a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are nothing to do with the indian food that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals served to the rich people of that period. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many new foods and herbs from the holy land, such as coriander, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an outbreak in recipe publications, most of which are kept safe in academic collections. Like it or not, the introduction of television brought us celebrity chefs and the demand for the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing us all to access thousands of recipes just like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chili Of Penultimate Grooviness recipe.
