Ingredients
3 lb short ribs
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 garlic cloves
2 tsp chili powder
15 oz tomato sauce
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
1 onion
32 oz red kidney beans
Directions
Brown ribs in hot oil. Remove, drain all but 1 tsp fat. Add chopped
garlic, lightly brown in oil. Add chili powder, tomato sauce, bring
to simmer. Sprinkle ribs with salt and pepper put in crockpot. Add
sauce and sliced onion. Cover and slow cook 6 to 8 hours on low.
Remove bones from pot, add kidney beans, cover and cook on high 1
hour.
Serve with cornbread.

The History of Recipes
It is quite possible to follow the history of written cooking instructions far back into antiquity, in truth as far back as early Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, these, early recipes were just basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing food.
Moving on, we find two interesting recipe books which appeared in the 1300s - a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, they have no connection with the spicy food that is popular today, but rather recipes for the types of food enjoyed by the rich and powerful of those days. By the advent of the 1900s, cook books are starting to become popular mostly as a result of more people being able to read, leisure time and having more disposable income. |
