The History of Recipes
Food historians have tracked the existance of recipes back into history, at least as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. However, generally, these ancient cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are a couple of interesting books from the 14th Century ; a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are nothing to do with the indian curry that is served today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals on the menues of the wealthy. By the arrival of the 20th century, recipe publications are in great demand, due to increased literacy, people having more free time and being a little richer. |
