The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be traced far back into the far past, in fact as far into history as the Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, generally, these early records were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
Moving on, there were a couple of recipe books dating from the 1300s : a book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these two books are not about the indian curry that we all know today, but rather recipes for the types of food cooked for the rich and powerful of the period. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery publications are highly popular due to better eduction, more spare time and a general increase in wealth. |
