The History of Recipes
Written recipes as an idea can be observed far back into history, in truth as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe even further. Having said that, these, early recipes were just basic hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
Much later, in Roman times a roman called Apicius wrote a number of scripts which described recipes enjoyed by the Romans. He tells us how the roman meals were divided into appetizers, entrees and afters, something we still use today. This early Roman chef recounts how the chefs of Roman times used many aromatic flavors, including some that we all recognise for example thyme, mint and dill. Over the succeeding few hundred years, the powerful and rich houses tried to serve up the most extravagent banquests, and because of this chefs and their recipe collections were much in demand. Notwithstanding that, it was during the 1800s the formal cooking and recipe books became really popular. The Famous Mrs Beeton in the UK, and Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, dedicated their lives to collating, trying out, and recording recipes common in their social group. The TV revolution gave us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everyone to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Cho Cho Pie recipe.
