The History of Recipes
It is quite feasible to track the history of written cooking instructions far back into the distant past, in truth as far into history as early Egypt, and maybe even further. Interesting though that is, these, old recipes were just primitive pictorial instructions for food preparation.
Moving on, there were two interesting recipe books which appeared in the 1300s ; one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these books are not about the indian curry that is served today, but instead recipes for the types of meals prepared for the upper classes of the time. By the advent of the 1900s, cookery books are starting to become popular mostly as a result of more people being able to read, leisure time and being a little richer. |
