The History of Recipes
We can trace the history of written recipes way back into distant history, in truth as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these old recipes were just simple hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for preparing meals.
Closer to modern times, we find two interesting recipe books which date from the 14th Century ; a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these are not about the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather recipes for the types of meals prepared for the rich and wealthy people of the period. Later, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought us many new spices and herbs from middle-east cuisine, including parsley and basil. The introduction of these new culinary ideas caused a torrent in manuscripts on cookery, many of which still exist in private collections. Like it or not, the introduction of TV gave us celebrity chefs and the accompanying recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to access thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on our web site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Drop Cookies recipe.
