2 cup bite-size fudge cream wafers or wa, fer candy bars
1 cup mini shortbread cookies with choco, late center
Directions
In large bowl, combine all ingredients; toss gently. Store in tightly
covered container.

The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as an idea can be tracked far back into history, in fact as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. Having said that, sadly, these old cookbooks were just very basic pictorial instructions for preparing food.
In an interesting twist, the most ancient recipe discovered so far, according to food historians are some stone tablets in ancient Sumerian which describe the preparation of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making drinkers feel `wonderful`. Later on, in The time of the romans 25BC a roman called Apicius wrote a number of scripts showing how to cook the recipes enjoyed by his fellow Romans. In his publication, Apicius tells us how the meals were separated into appetizers, main course and desserts, a style of dining still practiced today. This early Roman chef tells us how the Roman cooks used a wide range of herbs, including some familiar names such as bay, rue and asafoetida. Later on, in the 15th century, people returning from the crusades brought back a variety of foods and spices from Arab cuisine, including spices like rosemary and coriander. These new spices and herbs led to a torrent in recipe books, many of which still exist in private libraries. When we get to the 20th century, cook books are greatly in demand as a result of higher levels of literacy, people having increased spare time and having more money to spend. The revolution that is television brought us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on the site you are now reading. |
