The History of Recipes
Recipes as a concept can be observed way back into antiquity, in fact as far as the Egyptians, and maybe further still. However, sadly, these early cookbooks were just primitive hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there were two books from the 14th Century - a recipe book entitled `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these are not about the spicy food that we all know today, but instead recipes for the types of food on the menues of the upper classes of that period. When we get to the 1900s, cookery books were starting to become popular due to increased literacy, people having more leisure time and being a little richer. |
