The History of Recipes
Historians have traced the existance of recipes back into history, in fact as far into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, sadly, these old cook books were just simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are some books published in the fourteenth century : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these are nothing to do with the spicy food that appears on menues today, but rather descriptions of the types of food enjoyed by the rich and wealthy people of the period. By the arrival of the 20th century, recipe publications are greatly in demand as a result of more people being able to read, people having increased leisure time and having more disposable income. |
