The History of Recipes
We are able to read the history of meal recipes way back into the distant past, in fact as far back into history as the early Egyptians, and maybe even further. However, mostly, these old cookbooks were just very basic pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
As we move on, there are some books from the 1300s - a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they are not about the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the rich and powerful of the period. Later, in the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back a variety of foods, spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and basil. These new herbs and spices was responsible for an increase in manuscripts on cookery, most of which are kept safe in academic collections. The revolution that is television brought us TV chefs and the spin-off recipe books. Which brings us neatly to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting everyone to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on this site. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Pixies recipe.
