The History of Recipes
Written recipes as a concept can be tracked back into history, at least as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and potentially, even further back. In practice though, sadly, these old cook books were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for food preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves to more modern times there are a couple of interesting books published in the fourteenth century ; a book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another entitled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these books are not about the indian food that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals on the tables of the nobility of the time. In the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods and spices from the holy land, including spices like rosemary and coriander. The introduction of these new tastes caused an increase in recipe publications, many of which are kept safe in private collections. The introduction of television brought us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us up to date and the invention of computers and the internet, permitting us all to access massive numbers of recipes just like those on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Chocolate Sugar Cookies recipe.
