The History of Recipes
Historians have tracked the existance of recipes back into history, certainly as far into history as the ancient Egyptians, and maybe further still. In practice though, in the main part, these old records were just simple hieroglyphic recipes for meal preparation.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there are a couple of interesting recipe books which date from the 14th Century ; a cookery book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another titled `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, these are not about the indian curry that is popular today, but rather accounts of the types of food served to the wealthy. In the fifteenth century, the Crusaders brought back many spices and herbs from Arab cuisine, including basil and coriander. The introduction of these new tastes prompted a torrent in books on cooking, many of which still exist in private cookery archives. The introduction of television brought us cooking programs and the recipe books that accompanied them. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Christmas Vegetable Salad Mold recipe.
