The History of Recipes
We are able to track the history of written recipes far back into ancient history, at least as far back as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. However, these, ancient recipes were just basic hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
As we move on, there are some interesting books from the 14th Century : a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these two books are unconnected to the indian curry that is popular today, but rather descriptions of the types of meals prepared by the chefs of the nobility of that period. Later on in the 1400s, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods, spices and herbs from Arab cooking, including spices such as basil and coriander. The introduction of these new herbs and spices was responsible for an outbreak in books on cookery, many of which are kept safe in private cookery archives. The introduction of the TV brings us cooking programs and the accompanying recipe books. Which brings us neatly up to date and the invention of the internet, permitting everybody to access massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Cinnamon Chocolate Cake recipe.
