The History of Recipes
Academics have traced the existence of recipes far back into the far past, at least as far back into history as ancient Egypt, and quite possibly further than that. Having said that, mostly, these old cook books were just very simple pictorial instructions for preparing food.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we find some books which date from the 14th Century - a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are a little misleading though, they have no connection with the indian curry that we all know today, but instead recipes for the types of food eaten by the rich and wealthy people of the period. In the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back a variety of spices and herbs from Arab countries, such as coriander, parsley, and basil. These new culinary innovations was responsible for an explosion in books on cooking, the majority of which are now in private libraries. Like it or not, the introduction of television gave us TV chefs and the accompanying recipe books. And that neatly brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, permitting us all to search through thousands of recipes like the ones you can find on sites such as the one you are reading now. |
We hope you enjoy this Cocoa Nut Meringue Cheesecake recipe.
