The History of Recipes
We can follow the history of written recipes far back into history, certainly as far back into recorded history as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that is, generally, these early records were just very basic hieroglyphic or cunieform instructions for meal preparation.
Later, we find a couple of recipe books dating from the fourteenth century : one book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Despite their titles, these are unconnected to the curry that is popular today, but instead descriptions of the types of food served to the rich people of that time. By the time we get to the 20th century, cook books were highly popular due to more people being able to read, more leisure time and having more money. |
