The History of Recipes
Academics have traced the existance of recipes way back into ancient history, at least as far as the early Egyptians, and quite possibly further than that. Interesting though that maybe, generally, these ancient recipes were just primitive pictorial recipes for preparing meals.
As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years we have a couple of interesting books dating from the fourteenth century : one book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Amusingly, they are not about the indian curry that appears on menues today, but rather accounts of the types of food prepared by the cooks of the upper classes of the time. By the arrival of the 20th century, cooking publications are in high demand, mostly due to more people being able to read, people having increased free time and having more money. |
