The History of Recipes
Written cooking instructions as a concept can be found way back into the far past, in truth as far back into history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further. Interesting though that maybe, mostly, these ancient records were just very basic pictorial recipes for meal preparation.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, we have a couple of interesting cookery books published in the 1300s : a cookery book published under the title `Forme of Cury`, and another named `Curye on Inglish`. Although the titles sound familiar, these are unconnected to the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but rather recipes for the types of food on the menus of the upper classes of those days. In the 15th century, knights returning from the crusades brought back many new foods and spices from the Middle-East, such as basil and rosemary. The introduction of these new herbs and spices prompted a torrent in manuscripts on cookery, most of which are now in private libraries. The arrival of TV brings us celebrity chefs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the invention of computers and the internet, allowing everybody to search through massive numbers of recipes like the ones you can find on our site. |
We hope you enjoy this Peanut Praline Cakes recipe.
