The History of Recipes
It is actually possible to trace the history of recipes way back into history, at least as far back as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and maybe further still. However, generally, these old cookbooks were just very simple pictorial, hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for food preparation.
As we move on, there were two recipe books published in the 14th Century : a recipe book titled `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary called `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, they have no connection with the curry that appears on menues today, but instead recipes for the types of meals on the tables of the nobility of those days. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought us many foods and spices from the holy land, including parsley, basil and rosemary. These new foods and spices led to an explosion in manuscripts on food, some of which are now in private libraries. The revolution that is television brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. Which pretty much brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing us all to access thousands of recipes just like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Pears & Blue Cheese recipe.
