The History of Recipes
Transcribed cooking instructions as a concept can be traced back into the distant past, at least as far back into recorded history as the Egyptians, and possibly even further than that. However, in the main part, these ancient records were just very simple pictorial instructions for food preparation.
Moving our culinary historical trip onwards, there are a couple of interesting books from the 14th Century : a recipe book called `Forme of Cury`, and another called `Curye on Inglish`. Surprisingly, these books are unconnected to the spicy food that is familiar to us all today, but instead recipes for the types of food eaten by the rich and powerful of those days. Later on, in the 15th century, the Crusaders brought back many foods, spices and herbs from the East, such as parsley, basil and rosemary. These new herbs and spices created a torrent in books on cooking, most of which are kept safe in private collections. The arrival of TV brought us TV cookery programs and the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to search through massive numbers of recipes like those on the site you are now reading. |
We hope you enjoy this Pears With Spicy Lime~ Chile & Peanut Chutn recipe.
