The History of Recipes
It is possible to trace the history of written recipes far back into distant history, at least as far as the Egyptians, and possibly even further. Interesting though that is, mostly, these old cook books were just simple hieroglyphic recipes for preparing meals.
As we move on, we find two interesting books from the 1300s - a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary named `Curye on Inglish`. The titles are somewhat misleading tho`, these are nothing to do with the indian curry that is familiar to us all today, but instead descriptions of the types of meals on the menus of the rich and wealthy people of the time. Later, in the fifteenth century, people returning from the crusades brought back many foods, spices and herbs from Arab countries, including spices such as coriander, parsley, and basil. These new foods and tastes prompted a surge in recipe books, most of which are kept safe in academic collections. The arrival of television gave us cooking programs and the spin-off recipe books. And that brings us to the present day and the internet revolution, allowing everyone to access massive numbers of recipes such as those found on sites such as this. |
We hope you enjoy this Pecan Rolls (Potato Dough) recipe.
