Cook 8 oz. any shape pasta according to package directions; drain.
Rinse with cold water to cool quickly; drain well. In large bowl,
stir together cooled pasta, meat and vegetables. Add dressing; toss
lightly. Cover; refrigerate, stirring occasionally. 6 servings (1-1/2

The History of Recipes
Historians have tracked the existance of recipes way back into history, at least as far back into recorded history as the Egypt of the Pharoahs, and possibly even further than that. Having said that, in the main part, these old recipes were just primitive hieroglyphic or cunieform recipes for meal preparation.
Fascinatingly, the oldest recipe found, according to academics is a series of stone tablets in Sumerian which recount the preparation of bread which is then used to make a drink, quite possibly a form of beer as it is recorded as making those who drank it feel blissful. As our culinary historical trip moves on a few more years there were a couple of interesting books published in the 14th Century : a cookery book called `Forme of Cury`, and another, similary titled `Curye on Inglish`. Don`t be fooled by the titles though, they have no connection with the indian food that is served today, but rather recipes for the types of meals enjoyed by the rich and wealthy people of those days. Over the following few hundred years, the rich and powerful families of Europe competed with each other to serve up the most extravagent banquests, and as a result cooks and their collection of recipes were at a premium. Notwithstanding that, it was during the 19th century that haute cuisine and cookery books became really popular. The Famous Mrs Isabella Beeton in the UK, and the equally famous Fannie Merritt Farmer in the US, devoted their lives to collating, testing, and publishing recipes for their fellow cooks to enjoy. By the arrival of the 20th century, cookery publications are in great demand, as a result of increased literacy, people having more free time and having more disposable income. The introduction of television brings us TV cookery programs and the demand for the spin-off recipe books. And that pretty much brings us to the present day and the invention of the internet, allowing us all to access thousands of recipes like those on this web site. |
